Federal prosecutors are seeking a 50-year prison sentence for a Chicago woman who allegedly led an arson attack on her boyfriend's lover and the woman's children, pointing out in court documents that she has questionable supporters writing character letters on her behalf.
One letter written for Margarita "Flaca" Gonzalez apparently was penned by her half-brother, Heriberto Viramontes, who was charged with attempted murder in this spring's high-profile assault with a baseball bat on two women in the Bucktown neighborhood.(My comment:She might have wear a shirt that says,"I Love Hitler" if they were gonna take the plea from a piece of shit like him,I mean if I was the Judge,I put this bitch on the electric chair,pronto!!"
Gonzalez, 26, was in federal court Thursday along with Rafael Polanco, 27, who allegedly had a sexual relationship with the victim before helping Gonzalez set fire to her apartment.
Both have pleaded guilty in connection with the fire that injured the victim and her two young daughters.
U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer said she would consider an enhanced sentence for Gonzalez, and is expected to decide Friday on the length of time Gonzalez will spend behind bars.
Pallmeyer listened Thursday to brief testimony from the victim before speaking behind closed doors to her daughters, who were 6 and 3 at the time of the November 2008 blaze.
Back in open court, the judge called the girls beautiful, but said they suffered from permanent disfigurement and scarring. She called the crime "astonishing, shocking and hideous," and noted it had been committed over petty jealousy.
"It's stunning that anyone would take such a step," said the judge, who also was shown graphic photos of the girls' injuries.
Federal authorities said the quarrel started when Polanco and the victim had sex to get revenge on Gonzalez and another man, who also had a relationship with the victim.
But Polanco then helped Gonzalez torch the victim's car and then her apartment in the 5600 block of North Elston Avenue.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Michelle Nasser argued Gonzalez should be eligible for an extended sentence. The blaze set with gasoline at the victim's door quickly burned out of control in a 12-unit apartment building where 20 people were sleeping.
The fire "certainly was not just to scare the victim," Nasser said, noting that Gonzalez had made statements about the victim stating: "I'm going to (expletive) her up. I'm going to burn her house down."
Gonzalez then lied to law enforcement about the crime and got her family to cover for her, Nasser said. She had dropped her own child off at a relative's home on the girl's birthday so she could use a birthday party as an alibi, she told the judge.
Gonzalez's attorney, Patrick Boyle, said the fire was "grossly reckless and inappropriate" but there was no clear intent by his client to kill.
Gonzalez didn't appreciate the dangerousness of fire, he said, calling the dispute the result of "drug-fueled, paranoid rage between the parties."

Calling the crime "unacceptable in a decent society" a federal judge today sentenced a Chicago woman to 25 years in prison for setting a fire in a lovers' feud that terribly scarred two young girls.
U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer said Margarita "Flaca" Gonzalez and her boyfriend had to have known there were innocent people in an apartment building when they set a fire in 2008 to get revenge on a woman Gonzalez was fighting with.
The girls, now 8 and 5, suffered permanent scarring and what the judge determined was extreme psychological damage. "They didn't deserve this," the judge said. "We can't compensate them for what happened."
Prosecutors had sought an enhanced sentence of up to 50 years in prison for Gonzalez, 26, who offered a teary apology to the family of the girls today. The 25 years she received still was above the federal guideline range for arson.
Her boyfriend, 27-year-old Rafael Polanco, was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison.
Gonzalez told the judge she was truly sorry for what had happened, saying she was disturbed by images shown in court of the children's burns.
"The pictures are very unbearable," she said as she wept. Gonzalez said she loves children and is concerned that the five she has of her own will fear her because of her crime.
She also said she was grateful no one was killed. "That is the richest blessing that God has ever given to me that they all survived," she said.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Michelle Nasser had told the judge that 20 people were in the building when Gonzalez and Polanco set the blaze in the hallway, making it a miracle there had been no fatalities and that the government wasn't before the court seeking a death penalty.
As it is, Nasser said, the crime was horrendous and selfish and involved an attempt to burn victims alive over petty jealousy.
"Can there be anything more painful?" she asked Pallmeyer. "Can there being anything more torturous?"
The children continue to be in therapy, cannot yet venture into sunlight without protection and are subjected to stares at school, she said. The older child barely survived, prosecutors said, with doctors taking the step of giving her family a lock of her hair before she made a recovery.
Gonzalez's lawyer, Patrick Boyle, called the crime "grossly irresponsible," but urged Pallmeyer not to respond too emotionally to the children's injuries. The law requires the court to look at intent, Boyle said, and there was evidence Gonzalez and her helper were just trying to scare her rival.
The woman Gonzalez targeted had slept with Polanco as revenge for Gonzalez going to Mexico with a man the victim had a love interest in. The victim was in court today and cried as she left the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse. She would only say that the defendants deserved life sentences.

Tommorrow on July,7th.Both those two waste of sperm,Heriberto "Gee the Cubs should have got this guy in the line-up" Viramontes,and Marcy "Future episode of 'Intervention' or 'Jerry Springer'" Cruz will make thier apperances in court.Humm,maybe they'll run into Rod Blagojevich,but they can't use the bat on him like they did on those two ladies (Believe me,about everyone assocated with him would like to).
So let me share a list on what you can do to tell the two vile bastards (and thier families,yes Marylou V.,i'm talking about you!) as they go to court,...again.
1.Throw flashlight batteries.
2.Throw the empty bottles of beer the two drank that night at them.(Recycling at it's best!)
3.Since they used a baseball bat on both Ms. McShane and Ms. Jurich,why not even the score (and support the Stanley Cup Champions Blackhawks) by using a hockey stick on either suspect or their family member!
4.They used a baseball bat,throw them a baseball,...at their heads.
5.Break the news to either Herbi or Marcy that a herion bust was made a couple days ago.And that effort to buy drugs was wasted,...like both thier lives.
6.Pick a fight with a Spanish Cobra (you'll be in court,so they won't do a damn thing near any cop,and it will make that jackass look bad because of his so-called friends).

Two weeks after Natasha McShane first opened her eyes following a brutal bat beating in Bucktown, she said a few key words that showed her mother her memories were still there.
The moment of recognition came as Sheila McShane was readying her 23-year-old daughter for bed after a particularly frustrating day of rehabilitation. "I just heard her say, 'Mommy, I'm sorry,' " said Sheila McShane at a fundraiser for her daughter today. "That was the moment. I was just in tears because she recognized me."
Natasha McShane's family has held vigil by her hospital bedside since the Northern Irish exchange student and her close friend Stacy Jurich, 24, were attacked under a viaduct in April as they walked home after a night spent celebrating McShane's summer internship.
First told that the graduate student at the University of Illinois at Chicago may never walk or talk again, McShane's family said they were overjoyed when she finally opened her eyes in May and began to make sounds. Over the past month, McShane has made steady improvements, relearning how to form words and move her body, her family said.
"It's small steps every day, but it's slow," Sheila McShane said. "You'd just like her to wake up and be OK. But it's not like that."
On Sunday, McShane's mother, father, and younger brother participated in two fundraisers in Chicago while three of her closest friends from Ireland stayed with her at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
"We just had a sense that we had to do something," said Mary Crivello Witt who traveled from Milwaukee with her husband to volunteer at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago's Irving Park neighborhood.
McShane's parents, who are from Northern Ireland, said they were humbled by the generosity of people from Chicago and all over the United States, who have already helped to raise over $200,000 for their daughter's recovery.
Reputed gang member Heriberto Viramontes and Marcy Cruz have been charged in the attack.
Later this month, Natasha will undergo another procedure to reattach a portion of her skull that had to be removed following the beating, Sheila McShane said. At that point, her family said they hope to be able to move her to another rehab facility in Northern Ireland.
Sheila McShane said on Sunday that she still feels "bitter" over what happened to her daughter. Natasha had almost finished her master's degree in urban planning and had hoped to bring what she had learned in Chicago back to her hometown, Silverbridge.
"She couldn't wait to get here," said Sheila McShane, as she stood in the Heritage Center's library, scanning the works of famed Irish writers and politicians. "It's still hard to digest."

On April 23,2010,two women were beaten in the Bucktown nieghborhood.Both Stacy Jurich and Natasha McShane (an exchange student from Ireland) were both badly beaten by some heart-less bastard.That beating sererely injured Jurich (she's recovering,but still can't use her left side),and nearly killed McShane (she was in a coma for weeks,now she's wispering but still has a long way to go to recover).This beating put the whole city of Chicago in a very negative light,and who was the idiot that done this?It was Puerto Rican-waste of sperm,known as Spanish Cobras' memeber,Heriberto Viramontes.
Why did he do what he did?Simple,he nearly killed these ladies that had absoutely NOTHING to do with any gang activity,they were just walking home as McShane was celebrating her college work,something Viramontes wouldn't know,since he's a retarded elementry school dropout.And with the aid of some crackhead hooker named Marcy Cruz (who can also brun in hell,too),they pick the victims out and this asshole starting swinging.At the same time,he stole thier purses,and money and cell phones.Crackhead Cruz wore thier purfume and make-up,and Viramontes use the money for more than likely drugs (typical asswipe).Couple of days later,"Dumb and Dumber" got caught on camera and were arrested.Now he's rotting in Cook County Jail (in solarity confinment.What,his gang-banger friends don't want to kick it with this jackass?),and the hooker (her deadbeat daddy says she's bi-polar.What?Bi-polar people don't smoke weed and drink at 3:30 am in another nighborhood!She's a hooker!) is in a crazy house so that she doesn't kill herself (wish she had done it sooner).
But this mess not only as far away as Europe gave the city a huge black-eye,but it also punched the stomach of Chicago's latino community (which is in enough trouble,already without this).So that's why i'm mad enough to create this blog.And for as long as both Stacy Jurich and Natasha McShane try to recover (BTW:I hope you ladies get well soon),i'll be on this blog creating hell and slamming Heriberto Viramontes and his equally worthless crackhead whore,Marcy Cruz.Those who are with me,come and vent your fustrations.And those who defends Heriberto Viramontes,you're an idiot.
